Luxury brand Franck Muller has teamed up with investing company Regal Assets to develop “Encrypto,” a watch with bitcoin storage.
The luxury fashion piece will allegedly also work as a bitcoin (BTC) cold water. It’s designed with a public address engraved on the dial and comes with a personal key on a USB. The Franck Muller team claims this cold storage BTC wallet can’t be hacked and utilizes “offline generated, non-deterministic TRNGs (True Random Numbers Generated).”
$9,800 to $50,600 Price Range
The Encrypto also comes with a price tag that ranges between $9,800 to $50,600.
Erol Baliyan, Franck Muller’s regional director, said in a Regal Assets press release that bitcoin is the millennial’s version of gold. He also described the cryptocurrency as the perfect merger “between innovation and personal choice.”
Those who want a piece of history and a high-end watch can purchase the Encrypto either through conventional payment methods or BTC. Franck Muller is reportedly also looking into the development of similar watches that support the other top cryptocurrencies like Ripple’s XRP and the ether (ETH).
Franck Muller isn’t the only luxury clock and watch maker tapping into crypto and blockchain tech. Swiss company Vacheron Constantin will allegedly start utilizing blockchain to monitor its watches.
Last year, Swiss watch maker Hublot rolled-out a limited edition timepiece celebrating the 10th anniversary of bitcoin’s white paper. The watch, dubbed the Big Bang Blockchain, can only be purchased using BTC. The company only made 210 copies of the watch as homage to the crypto’s fixed cap of 210 thousand coins.
